Some say that faith means never doubting or that you shouldn’t ask questions. But I believe faith is precisely what you cling to when doubts creep in. It’s what you hold onto when you’ve exhausted everything you can see and touch, yet you still know deep inside there’s more.

This week, I watched my husband officiate a high school swim meet, and it took me back to when my daughter, Texa, competed. Watching those eager young faces brought back memories of her—her determination and passion. She wasn’t one for the smaller, everyday meets. Texa loved the big competitions, where everything was on the line. She didn’t like losing, but more than that, she wouldn’t tolerate sloppy technique or half-hearted effort. She believed in finishing well.

Texa taught me that life’s challenges—whether in the pool or in faith—require commitment, focus, and determination. She never settled for mediocrity and encouraged others to give their best. Isn’t that what faith is? The discipline of showing up when it’s hard. The practice of holding on when you want to let go. The choice to keep swimming when the waters get rough.

God isn’t threatened by my questions. His throne isn’t shaken by my wondering. I don’t want shallow answers. I want to dive deep into faith, wrestle with the tough questions, and grow through it all. Because it’s in the deep waters where we meet God, find strength, and discover who we are.

“In my trouble, I called to the Lord. I cried out to my God for help. From his temple, he heard my voice. My call for help reached his ears.” – Psalm 18:6 ICB
